Recipe Tips and FAQs
What usually goes into a Lebanese salad?
In traditional Lebanese cuisine, salads are meticulously crafted using a tangy and invigorating dressing, featuring the harmonious blend of zesty lemon and fragrant olive oil. These salads boast an array of vibrant greens and vegetables, including arugula, spinach, romaine, crisp cucumbers, vibrant peppers, juicy tomatoes, and aromatic parsley. Each element contributes to a symphony of flavors and textures, capturing the essence of Lebanese culinary heritage.
What goes well with this recipe
This light salad serves as an excellent accompaniment to a variety of protein options, such as grilled salmon or chicken, elevating it to a complete and satisfying meal. For added sustenance, consider pairing it with a side of rice or serving it alongside warm and fluffy pita or naan bread.
How to store the recipe
To ensure optimal freshness and texture, it is recommended to refrain from combining the vegetables with the dressing until the moment of serving when preparing this recipe in advance. This precautionary measure prevents the vegetables from becoming excessively moist and losing their desired crispness. For the best taste experience, it is advised to consume the salad immediately after tossing or within a maximum of two days of storage in a refrigerator.
What is the difference between tabbouleh and a Lebanese salad?
Tabbouleh, a revered Middle Eastern staple, dazzles with precise preparation and unique flavors. Finely chopped veggies captivate without leafy greens. Fresh parsley shines as its essence. This Lebanese salad differs: larger vegetable cuts, leafy lettuce, less parsley, no bulgur.
What is healthy about this Lebanese salad?
This recipe boasts an abundance of health-promoting benefits. Lemons, rich in phytonutrients, offer powerful antioxidants, vitamin C for cell protection and repair, and potassium for nerve and muscle functions (1). High-quality olive oil provides healthy fats, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and antioxidants, preserving the olive fruit’s nutritional value often lost in refined oils. Its consumption can reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers (2). Leafy vegetables, like the spring mix used here, deliver a wealth of vitamins, minerals, and fiber (3). With its ease and deliciousness, this recipe brings endless health benefits to your plate.
